US-China trade talks continue in Washington

US-China trade talks continue in Washington in an attempt to avoid the March 1st deadline for the imposition of by the US on a further $200bn of Chinese imports. It is likely that the deadline will be extended as the prize is now a Summit between the two Presidents Xi and Trump at a later date.

2019 North Korea–United States Hanoi Summit Vietnam

President Trump and Kim Jong Un meet to discuss further denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula. Sanctions imposed by the UN and augmented by China have been a key part of bringing the North Korean’s to the table. Now, North Korea has announced that it has a major food crisis and has reduced individual rations ahead of the Summit. The US may be able to hint at loosening of sanctions if North Korea moves more quickly to end its nuclear programme.
